Nothing Can Replace
a Real Live Financial Advisor
A set of algorithms will never know you as well as another human being.
Recently, the financial services profession has witnessed the rise of robo advisors: automated investment management platforms aiming to take the place of flesh-and-blood financial advisors. They are marketed as a less expensive alternative to the traditional advisor-client relationship-but figuratively speaking, you might say the investors who use robo advisors may pay a significant price.
A robo advisor has an inherent drawback: its lack of humanity. A set of algorithms can’t have a conversation with you. It doesn’t know your dreams, your goals, or your loved ones. It has no idea how you would like the rest of your life to unfold or what kind of retirement you hope to create. It won’t meet with you to craft a personalized retirement plan or a risk management approach or put your best interests first.
There are some things you should consider not buying on price. One of those things is financial advice. Currently, many robo advisors offer very little of that-you may fill out a questionnaire, be assigned a model portfolio, and algorithms subsequently make investment decisions for you. In short, you may get a generic investment approach that may be suitable for someone like you and a low level of human contact.
Technology can’t replace the human touch. Good financial advisors offer personalized advice based on a deeply personal connection with their clients. They know their clients’ stories; they’ve gained insight into their lives and dreams. They build relationships. That kind of understanding is irreplaceable-and to forfeit it may invite risk.
Let’s find a time to meet. I look forward to getting to know you and learning about your financial planning needs.
